Attention all you knitters and crocheters out there...
Justin and I decided it'd be nice to run another preemie hat collection. We had a lot of fun with it last time. We are planning on collecting the hats around March 1st March 15th.
For those unfamiliar, here are the details/rules:
We ask that you make hats specifically sized for premature babies. Regular infant hats are okay as well, but the project is geared towards preemies. There are tons of free resources on the Net for patterns.
You may knit, crochet or even sew, if that's your thing. If sewing, try the sizing from the crochet links above.
Use baby or "sport weight" yarn. The all-cotton based ones like "sugar and spice" or "Bernat" work very well as they aren't scratchy-feeling. If sewing, choose appropriately soft and safe fabrics. NO wool, eyelash or fun yarn
It mentions on their website that they also accept small blankets, quilts, and items for Oncology patients. We'll accept any of these items as well and send them along to the hospital. Last year, we donated two small lap blankets.
You'll need to get the hats to us. If you want to ship them to us, email us and ask for an address.
Additional information:
Woman & Infants is in need of hats for full term babies. These should measure no more than 6 inches in length and we suggest the circumference to be no more than 14 inches.
No decorative items to be added to the hats. A tightly secured pom-pom is ok.
Size of quilts for babies in NICU - 40 x 40 - used to drape over babies' isolettes.
Size of afghans for infants - 24-30 inches wide by 32-36 inches long - used for cribs, carriages and car seats
Update: 26 Baby Hats were delivered to Women & Infants Hospital this morning! Thank you to all who participated!
